Middelburg is conveniently situated between Gauteng, the Kruger National park and the Maputo Corridor.
Middelburg has a growing tourism industry due to its location on route to the Kruger National Park.
The town and surrounding area offer a number of activities to participate in including golfing, cycling, hiking trails, 4 x 4 trails, fishing and health spa resorts.
There are a number of interesting activities to do in Middelburg which include a native Ndebele tourist village and the chance to visit the beautiful Dutch Reformed Church, built in 1890.
The Middelburg Dam plays host to the annual Middelburg Mile swimming event. The event celebrated its 40th year running in 2013 and is the world’s largest open water swimming event.
Other things to do in and around Middelburg:
– Dullstroom, an hour’s drive away, is famous for its fly fishing and also has a nature reserve. It’s becoming known as little Switzerland and is well worth a visit.
– Loskop Dam – 48km north of Middelburg features a nature reserve offering game viewing by boat.
