Mtubatuba is a small rural town that serves as the gateway to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, both of which are about 30km away. The name is Zulu for ‘creator of opportunities’, referring to a chief of the Mkwananzi tribe who died here in 1954.
The iSimangaliso Wetland Park offers the following:
Estuary boat cruises, game drives, guided walks, deep sea fishing, beaches, bird watching, horse riding, whale watching, turtle tours and kayaking.
The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is the oldest game reserve in Africa (1895) and you can explore the park and discover the big 5. It offers viewing hides and a diversity of fauna and flora.
For the golf enthusiasts, the Umfolozi Golf Club and the Monzi Golf Club are available. The Umfolozi Parkrun takes place each year at the Teza Game Reserve.
