Reitz was laid out 1889 and named after the former Free State Premier, Francis William Reitz. It is located 50 km from Bethlehem and 58 km from Frankfort. Reitz has one of the largest maize silos in the southern hemisphere and also thrives as a wheat and cattle farming town. The majority of its residents speak Afrikaans.
The natural surroundings of Reitz make for many activities and attractions with regards to the outdoor life. All members of the family will find something to do and enjoy in the area. Tourists are encouraged to visit the Lion Breeding Project. Located on a farm named Van Rooyenswoning, these wild animals is certainly a sight to behold.
