Port Alfred is a small town located in the Eastern Cape on the banks and at the mouth of the Kowie River, precisely halfway between Port Elizabeth and East London. Port Alfred is a popular holiday destination with sandy beaches that extend for miles. With the Kowie’s flowing waters, Port Alfred has many activities to offer visitors.
A growing commercial and residential town, Port Alfred has a large yachting community within the harbour and a fantastic residential marina. The river divides the town in two that is linked by a couple of bridges.
We have here in our tiny paradise more than the average attractions to offer even the most discerning visitor – amazing beaches, indigenous valley bushveld, semi-mountainous contrasts, and glorious valleys. And to top it all a blissful temperate climate, with the longest sunshine hours in the Cape.
Port Alfred boasts not only of the climate, the water, and the historical connections, but we have stepped into the modern world with top-class shopping malls, sophisticated healthcare, a Royal golf course, intimate small-boat harbour, light industry, hospitality university and an air school, considered world class.
Unique in a geographical situation, we are surrounded by the most exciting array of game reserves and parks, yet to be equated in Southern Africa. In a totally Malaria free area, not only do we boast of conservation and animals for display and enjoyment but a proactive, world-class hunting industry. There are international artists who live and work here.
There is so much to do in the region, so many interesting places to go to and so much to do while visiting us here. The warm Indian Ocean and many inland water surfaces offer endless opportunities for bathing, boating, water-skiing, surfing, windsurfing, angling, diving, and bird watching. This is the world of eco-tourism where you can hike and holiday to your heart’s content at a wide variety of venues.
