The Sleepy Gecko Guesthouse is a boutique guesthouse right in the heart of trendy Melville in Johannesburg. Situated at the corner of 7th Street and 3rd Avenue Melville it is right on the doorstep of the best bars and restaurants in Jo’burg. Furthermore, its proximity to SABC, the leading News Agencies, the City of Johannesburg and other vibrant centers such as Rosebank, Sandton and Randburg makes this THE place to stay for local and foreign travelers, whether for Business or Pleasure.

The Guesthouse consists of two houses, one built in the 1930’s as two semi-detached houses and the other a much older (1902) farmhouse. We combined the two semi’s to create a single building with 4 large bedrooms with luxurious en-suite bathrooms and a further two executive suites at the rear of the property which have separate sleeping and lounge areas.

The main house also has a lounge/reception room, a dining room and a large verandah overlooking the stunning hot South African garden with its Martini Ledge Swimming Pool where you can sip Cocktails in the afternoon sun. The older  house has 3 guestrooms, 2 with shower bathrooms and one with a full bathroom. All rooms have private entrances.

Breakfasts are served in the dining room from 7.30am through 10am and consist of an extensive cold buffet including juice, yoghurt, cheeses, cold meats, breads, jams, preserves, fruit and other daily specials. A hot breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausages, and other tasty offerings is also available.

The dining room occupies what used to be the two lounges of the semis. In combining these two rooms we magnify the beauty of the leaded glass windows as well as the smaller leaded arch windows on either side of the front doors. We have included a little colour in some of the replaced panels in the leaded windows to link the windows with the coloured lead panel we had made for the doors leading into the kitchen. We have kept the original deco fireplace surrounds though we have replaced the hearths with gas burning units. The lighting Company, Amoeba, has created all of the lighting fixtures in the house. We believe their unique style and construction epitomizes the best of South African Craft and Creativity.

Our rates for all rooms are:
Single: R800 per night
Double: R1000 per night
The Red Hot Chilli Room is priced at R600 per night
All prices include breakfast and are inclusive of VAT.
